At the moment, the GREAT-NS program is not accepting applications.
Eligibility:
Participants must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate with a major in physics, chemistry or engineering in a degree-seeking program at an accredited Minority Serving Institution (MSI) at time of application.
Full-time enrollment status is determined by the number of hours or courses the school requires for full-time attendance (defined by the Internal Revenue Service).
U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required. Permanent residents from sensitive or SST countries are ineligible.
Participants must be over the age of 18.
Participants must have medical insurance during their time at the Lab.
Participants must behave in a responsible and professional manner. Interns must adhere to the Ethics and Conduct at Berkeley Lab Requirements and Policies Manual (RPM).
Participants must be able commit to the full period of the traineeship

Summer:
$935 per week stipend during the summer program.
Summer 2024 Traineeship program is to be in person at Berkeley Lab or San José State University
The expected time commitment is 40 hours per week, which includes
Research in nuclear science with your research mentors at Berkeley Lab or San José State University;
Tours of experimental facilities;
Networking activities with other trainees and mentors;
Career development workshops;

$4000 housing stipend for summer session - all interns are required to attend weekly events in-person at Berkeley Lab and participate in all WD&E activities and assignments.
Fall and Spring (contingent on funding)
$350 per week stipend during the week spring and fall programs
Traineeships will have a virtual option for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025
During the academic semesters, the time commitment is up to 15 hours per week, which includes:
Research time, working with research mentors;
Seminars in different areas of nuclear science and related fields;
Organized homework help sessions;
Networking activities with other trainees and mentors;
